Water purifiers are the most common things that can be found in every house now. With the amount of impurities and diseases that are caused by water has made it necessity of every house to have a water purifier. But still there are people who are unaware of the impurities in the water and the damage it can make. If you are reliable on some river or lake for water that is supplied by the Municipality, there are chances that fresh water supplied by municipality still has impurities in it.

Chemical waste and other hazardous materials are dumped directly in the seas by the Industries and Municipality filters may fail to make water 100% pure. If you have a supply of underground water or from a bore well than for sure you need to have a water purifier. Some of the deadliest diseases are caused by impure water such as Cholera, and other serious illnesses such as Guinea worm disease, Typhoid, and Dysentery. Water related diseases cause 3.4 million deaths each year. Even after this if you still have a doubt about what water purifiers actually do and how it is beneficial for you.

Here is how purifiers actually clean water and make it healthy.

  • There are mainly three types of water purifiers-RO, UV, UR. These water purifiers work differently and are suitable for a specific type of water.

RO water purifiers

Reverse osmosis (RO) is a water purification technology that uses a semipermeable membrane to remove ions, molecules and larger particles from drinking water. It is the most commonly used water purifier. Now how do RO or Reverse Osmosis work? In the easiest way I will try to answer this question. The semipermeable membrane is the main part of the RO. There are tiny holes in the semipermeable membrane and water is passed from these tiny holes to purify. About the tiny holes-these tiny holes let only water molecules pass through them but block other harmful particles or molecules. As a result of which all the impurities of water are separated and eventually the water is pure for drinking.

UV water purifiers

UV or Ultraviolet water purifiers are believed to be one of the most efficient, reliable and safe water purifiers. UV water purifiers work at three stages of purification. At the first stage, all the visible impurities of water are removed. At the second stage, all the particles which cannot be seen by a naked eye are removed such as lead particles. After the second stage of purification of water, the third stage starts. The third stage is the most important stage of purification. There is a stainless steel cylinder in which there is a UV light of wavelength 254 nanometer. The water contains bacteria which multiply so to deal with it and remove such impurities, the UV light is passed through water which attacks the DNA of the bacteria and kills it, making water 100% pure for drinking.

UF water purifiers

UF or Ultrafiltration water purifiers is a variety of membrane filtration in which forces like pressure or concentration gradients lead to a separation through a semipermeable membrane. In this water purifier, there are tiny holes of 0.01 micron from which the water passes and the impurities are removed. UF and RO water Purifiers are not same. The difference between them is that in RO water purifiers the Minerals are also removed along with Impurities but in UF water purifiers only in the impurities are removed and the minerals remain in the water.
